With age comes wisdom and changes to your skin, like wrinkles… You’re probably less than thrilled to be experiencing the physical signs of aging. And you’re not alone. Luckily, there is a solution to help you keep the look you love. The many options in the Allergan family of fillers can truly help turn back time! These treatments reduce the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles and augment areas such as the cheeks and lips that are prone to volume loss as we age. Read on, our expert injectors at WIFH fill you in about our favorite Allergan fillers used at our med spa:

What Are Allergan Fillers?

Often referred to as the lunchtime facelift, Allergan fillers are dermal cosmetic fillers that have been specifically engineered to address numerous patient concerns such as wrinkles, fine lines, deep folds, and age-related volume loss – without invasive surgery. They can take years off of your face without invasive surgery! Allergan Juvéderm products are hyaluronic based fillers. Hyaluronic Acid is naturally occurring in our bodies, which makes these fillers safe (with a low occurrence of side effects). At WIFH Atlanta, we trust these five Allergan fillers:

Juvéderm Ultra

For softer facial lines and folds, we recommend the Juvéderm Ultra filler. It is also used around the lips and mouth to treat smile lines and enhance the size and shape of the lips. With this treatment, results typically last 6-12 months.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus

A step up from Juvéderm Ultra,  Juvéderm Ultra Plus is a thicker product that’s perfect for treating those moderate to severe lines or folds, such as parenthesis around the nose and mouth or marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin). For most people, the results of Juvéderm Ultra Plus last six months to a year. Vollure

Another member of the Allergan family of fillers is Vollure. This filler can be used for both fine lines and deep folds. This product is softer than Juvederm Ultra Plus making it a good choice for those areas of high movement. Vollure can be used to treat parenthesis lines (lines around the nose and mouth), marionette lines (lines from the corner of the mouth to the chin), and volume loss to the lips and cheeks. Vollure works particularly well in treating cheek hollows. Results generally last up to 18 months.

Volbella

At our Atlanta med spa, we use Volbella to achieve soft, natural-looking lip augmentation, but it’s also great for treating fine lines, smoker’s lines around the mouth, and hollows under the eyes. Volbella results typically last up to a year.

Voluma

The Voluma filler is a great option for contouring and lift augmentation. We like to use Voluma in the cheeks, chinand jawline areas.  As we age the volume loss in the cheeks or mid-line face often lead to lines around the mouth. Chins are a popular treatment area as it can help restructure the shape of the face. When used for jawlines, Voluma helps define the area and even addresses bone loss as we get older. The best part? Results from Voluma can last up to two years after treatment. Ready to try an Allergan filler? Is Botox an Option for Cosmetic Fillers?

Another popular Allergan product is Botox, but while many patients think it’s a cosmetic filler, it actually isn’t. That said, Botox doesn’t fill the treatment area to soften and smooth lines, it works by limiting the movement in treated facial muscles. Most commonly used to treat lines and wrinkles on the upper face such as crow’s feet, forehead, and the glabellar (the dreaded 11’s between your eyebrows). It can also be used on the lower face (DAO’s, lip flip, masseter muscle (TMJ)). If the Allergan line of facial fillers isn’t the best fit for you, Botox may be just what you’re looking for. During your consultation, your injector will ask you about your areas of concern and how much movement you would like to have. Many still believe that using Botox gives you a ‘frozen’ look, but that is simply not the case. Botox treatments are completely customizable based on how much movement you would like to have. The more you use the less movement. Keep in mind, it can take up to 2 weeks for Botox to take full effect, and results last 3-4 months.

Post-Filler Procedure Side Effects

Regardless of what type of Allergan filler is used, you can likely expect some swelling after treatment. Don’t worry, this swelling is temporary. Allergan fillers are safe and effective, and the risks and side effects of using these fillers are minimal. After treatment, you may experience:
  • Mild pain
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Discoloration
  • Lumps or bumps
  • Firmness
  • Itching
  • Swelling
As with any injectable, it is important to properly care for the injection site after the procedure. Our team at WIFH Atlanta will help you prepare for your at-home care post-procedure. Turn back time: The Best Cosmetic Procedures for Aging Skin
