Reducing the appearance of submental fullness, more commonly known as “double chin” is one of the most popular applications for Smartlipo. Submental fat can develop under the chin area due to weight gain or aging. It is common for patients who are in good health, within 20-25 pounds of their ideal weight, to develop the appearance of submental fullness under the chin, even when adhering to consistent diet and exercise.
For patients searching for treatment options to reduce the appearance of a “double chin,” there are multiple body contouring options available at all levels of invasiveness. These double chin treatment options include Traditional Liposuction, Laser-assisted Liposuction, and Non-Invasive Injectables1. This article focuses on Smartlipo laser-assisted liposuction for submental fullness.
Double Chin Treatment with Smartlipo
Cost of Double Chin Liposuction
The cost of Smartlipo on the chin area will vary based on where the patient undergoes treatment, however a typical price range patient’s should expect will be between $2,500 and $4,000.
During the Procedure
As with all Smartlipo procedures at WIFH, double chin liposuction is conducted using local anesthesia. The instruments used to conduct the procedure are very small (approximately 2-3 millimeters), resulting less tissue trauma and bruising post-procedure.
To begin the double chin liposuction treatment, one single puncture will be made to enter the skin. This allows the insertion of a tiny micro cannula that houses the laser fiber. The treatment area is infused with numbing fluid, and the heat of the laser both simultaneously melts the fat and tightens the skin around the treatment area2. The liquefied fatty fluid is suctioned out of the body.
Post-Procedure Recovery
Following the double chin liposuction procedure, patients will experience mild swelling. It is also possible for patients to experience bruising, however this is uncommon. The swelling should subside in 3-5 days. In most cases the patient is not required to wear a compression garment, however it is preferred to be worn in larger chin procedures.
Expected Results
As the swelling fully subsides, patients will begin to notice a gradual reduction in submental fullness. This typically occurs 3-5 weeks post procedure. and final results are expected at the 3-6 month mark.
