miraDry: Be Gone Excessive Underarm Sweating!

Excessive sweat. Stained clothes. Persistent odor. It’s time for a new normal.

Excessive sweat is a thing of the past! Enter miraDry. WIFH patients love it because in as little as one non-surgical treatment, you can permanently reduce embarrassing underarm sweat. In this post, we’ll explore the miraDry treatment and how it banishes excessive sweat and its pitfalls…

Why miraDry?

Unlike BOTOX, where sweat reduction typically lasts four to six months, and patients need re-treatment every 6 to 8 monthsmiraDry permanently deactivates sweat glands. Results achieved with miraDry are lasting because the sweat glands do not grow back after treatment. The reduction in underarm sweat is long term

Some WIFH patients report that they no longer use antiperspirant products following their miraDry treatment. Most patients will only need one treatment to achieve satisfactory reduction. There are some patients that may need or want a second procedure for optimal results.

About the Treatment

The FDA cleared miraDry in 2011 as a non-surgical treatment that drastically reduces underarm sweat, odor & hair. If other treatments and topical solutions like deodorant are simply not working for you, this is a good treatment to try.

Up to two treatments at WIFH are recommended, approximately 3 months apart. Our patients typically will see a reduction in sweat immediately following the first treatment, and achieve underarm sweat reduction of 82 percent on average.  Our office is one of the nation’s leading experts in this procedure and we are proud to be in the top 10 providers in the nation.

Am I A Good Candidate For miraDry?

  • Embarrassed or self-conscious of sweat stains on your clothing, even when you’re not working out?
  • Experience a bad smell from underarms, even when wearing deodorant? (You may even carry extra in your purse for those just in case moments.)
  • Living an active lifestyle, which only exacerbates your sweating…?

You’re not alone. And you may be a good candidate for miraDry treatment. Since it’s noninvasive, it’s well-tolerated by both men and women. If you feel that one or more of these statements fits you, then contact our office for an appointment.

What to Expect With miraDry Treatment

During your appointment, we will first prepare your underarms by cleansing and marking the underarm treatment areas. We will then inject a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable during miraDryYour practitioner then uses the underarm marks as a guide to apply the bursts of thermal energy. You may feel a brief sensation of warmth or stinging. Treatment at WIFH takes less than two hours and has minimal downtime or side effects, and results are permanent.

To help you decide if this nonsurgical, noninvasive treatment is right for you, here are common questions we get during consultations:

What’s Recovery Like?

Immediately after your treatment, we’ll give you a cold compress to hold under your arms. Most patients can return to normal activities the next day. However, we recommend taking a few days off from strenuous exercise. It’s normal to notice swelling, bruising, and tenderness of the underarms for a few days. This is a sign that your miraDry procedure worked.

You’ll want to wear a loose top to avoid irritation once you get back to your regular routine. After miraDry treatment, you’ll simply wash your underarms twice daily. Avoid applying antiperspirant/deodorant for the first 3 days.

Does miraDry Hurt?

The local anesthetic used should keep you completely comfortable. Though you may feel some warmth during the miraDry treatment. Most patients say that overall the procedure was painless.

Remember: patients who undergo miraDry at WIFH should take the remainder of the day off as slight discomfort and swelling is common after treatmentDiscomfort will diminish within the first few days, but swelling can last for several weeks.

How Much is miraDry Treatment?

It’s also not a pain on your pocketbook! If you’ve been doing your research, then you know that miraDry treatments can cost up to $4,500, and it’s typically not covered by insurance. The investment at WIFH is currently $2,650. Should you decide to undergo a second treatment, the cost of that treatment session is significantly reduced.

For optimal results, some patients need two treatments. After pricing things out, make your miraDry appointment at WIFH Medspa near Atlanta, GA.

Will I Ever Sweat Again?

After miraDrythe amount of sweat-reduction will vary by patient. While results are essentially permanent, the amount of long-term sweat reduction achieved with miraDry treatment is personal and is best assessed after 3 months.
