Yes, Dark Ink Can Be Removed from Dark Skin Types
People with dark skin types can easily have their tattoos removed. However, while researching laser tattoo removal, men and women of color should be aware of some special considerations.
Black and red tattoos do quite well. Light colors like sky blue, lavender, yellow or green require the use of a different laser than black tattoos[20].
We choose not to use these lasers on dark skin as we know they will cause pigment issues with the skin. We have seen too many people from other facilities that come to us with skin pigment issues as a direct result of these color specific lasers being used.

For tattoos on dark skin, we use a Q-switched Yag which too, is safe for the skin[57]. Mild pigment issues related to the Q-switched Yag[57]are well tolerated by our patients who feel it is more important to them to get the tattoo removed.
