Frequently Asked Questions

What does CoolPeel CO2 treat?

CoolPeel can treat fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation issues (hyperpigmentation, age spots, uneven skin tone), acne scars, pore size, and skin texture.

Will CoolPeel affect my Botox or Fillers?

When treatments are scheduled correctly, CoolPeel should have no affect whatsoever on Botox or fillers. We recommend waiting 1-2 weeks after getting any injections before having a CoolPeel treatment and waiting 1 week after having CoolPeel before your injectable appointment.

Do CoolPeel CO2 Laser Treatments Hurt?

Pain is very subjective, but our patients all agree that CoolPeel is a relatively painless procedure. We use a topical numbing cream before the treatment, and a chiller blows cold air directly onto the skin during the treatment.

How is CoolPeel different from CO2?

Both use carbon dioxide lasers to resurface the skin but differ in their approach, downtime, and overall patient experience. Here are the key differences:

Treatment Intensity:
CoolPeel: Uses a fractional CO2 to deliver precise, short energy pulses that target the superficial skin layers. This minimizes damage to surrounding tissue and reduces recovery time.
Traditional CO2: Delivers continuous or pulsed energy, which can penetrate deeper into the skin, resulting in more extensive tissue damage and longer recovery times.
Downtime:
CoolPeel: Minimal downtime. Most patients experience only mild redness and possible swelling for 1-2 days. CoolPeel is designed for quick recovery, making it a great option for those with a busy schedule.
Traditional CO2: Typically involves significant downtime, with redness, swelling, and peeling that can last 10+ days.
Comfort:
CoolPeel: Considered very comfortable with only topical numbing cream.
Traditional CO2: May require pain management such as local anesthesia or sedation due to the higher intensity and deeper penetration of the laser.
Results:
CoolPeel: After just one CoolPeel treatment, you’ll notice smoother, brighter skin. However, results are cumulative, so we recommend a series of 4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. It takes months for our skin to produce new collagen, so you can expect to see your full CoolPeel results about 3-4 months after your last treatment.
Traditional CO2: More dramatic and immediate results due to deeper skin resurfacing. Effective for more advanced signs of aging (deep wrinkles, significant skin texture concerns) but comes with longer recovery times.

What Types of Skin Respond Well to the CoolPeel?

Skin showing signs of aging, such as fine lines and mild wrinkles, responds very well to the collagen stimulation effects of CoolPeel treatments. Sun-damaged skin, mild acne scars, large pores, and rough texture also respond particularly well.

Fair to medium skin tones can safely be treated because there is a lower risk of pigmentation issues. It’s possible to treat darker skin tones by pretreating the skin for 4 weeks with a skin care regimen that reduces the risk of PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation).

How Many Treatments Are Needed to See Results?

We recommend 4 sessions. Some skin types and concerns may require more sessions for optimal results from CoolPeel.

Does the CoolPeel burn?

CoolPeel is designed to minimize discomfort during treatment. You may feel a tingling sensation, but not burning. After treatment, it’s normal to feel like you have a mild sunburn. This typically subsides within a few hours to a day.
