Filler and why we love them
Most dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid to enhance specific areas of the face. Dermal filler is much different than any neurotoxin such as Botox or Dysport, as it does not affect muscle motion. Instead, it is injected under the surface of the skin to restore volume loss and smooth fine lines. Dermal fillers are used to enhance many areas of the face. Injections can help to sharpen jawlines, contour cheekbones, plump the lips, fill and restore dark under eyes.
Volbella is one of the newest dermal fillers on the market. Volbella is also a part of the Juvederm family of cosmetic facial fillers. Volbella is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler that’s used to enhance lip fullness and soften the appearance of “smoker’s lines” above and around the mouth. It can also be used to get rid of the “violin strings” or very fine lines on the cheeks. Volbella is one of the few cosmetic fillers that is highly effective in smoothing the fine lines above the lips, as well as fine lines on the cheeks.

The week Before the Procedure
- Three to five days before having a facial filler patients should avoid medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, and vitamin E as they can increase the risk of bleeding and thus bruising.
- Limit alcohol a couple of days in advance, again as this may cause increased bleeding and bruising.
- If patients are on a prescribed anticoagulant, they should consult with their prescribing physician before having a facial filler.
- Notify the injector of any autoimmune disorders that might be a contraindication.
how it works
- A numbing cream will be applied to the area of the face being injected for 15-20 minutes before treatment to ensure patient comfort.
- At the site of injections, it is normal for patients to experience redness and swelling. Typically this goes away within a couple of hours. Swelling most commonly could last for several days.
- Our clinicians will provide post treatment tips and best practices following treatment to help with any swelling and or bruising.
- Results are immediate after treatment. Full results are expected at 2 weeks and can last anywhere between 6-12 months…sometimes even longer.

What are the risks/side effects of filler
Filler injections produce a very low occurrence of adverse events. The most commonly reported side effect of any filler is temporary redness, swelling, and or bruising at the injection site.
Certain types of fillers can be reversible. In some cases, we have patients come to us with overfilled or migrated filler. We are able to dissolve any hyaluronic-acid based filler with a hyaluronidase.

Preparing for Juvederm Volbella XC

What to Expect During Juvederm Volbella XC
A numbing cream will be applied to the area of the face to be injected. This will remain on the skin for approximately 15-20 minutes before the treatment begins. The numbing cream allows for additional comfort during treatment. Volbella also contains lidocaine (a numbing agent) which provides for additional comfort during the injecting process.
Juvederm Volbella XC Recovery Time
Recovery is minimal. Expect immediate swelling. Bruises can show up hours or even a day or two later. It is recommended to ice the area on and off for the first hour which will help reduce swelling and minimize your chance of bruising.
