Want to reduce wrinkles and fine lines?

At WIFH, we carry many of the Juvederm facial fillers (Juvederm XC, Voluma and Volbella). In this article we’ll focus just on Juvederm XC, which we believe is the best option for treating lines and wrinkles on the lower face, like the laugh lines around the mouth. It also does a great job in enhancing and adding volume to the lips. Juvederm XC is a hyaluronic acid filler, and the “XC” means each facial filler has lidocaine mixed in for a comfortable injection.

We also use a topical numbing cream to provide even more comfort on top of the lidocaine already mixed into the filler; they really are painless. It takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes to complete the injection process and the results are immediate, but it can take several days for all of the swelling to go away, so be sure to plan ahead for any event the patient may be getting ready for. We advise patients to have filler done at least two weeks ahead of any special event.

Juvederm for Lower Face

With Juvederm XC fillers, we are able to smooth away or fill the laugh lines or parentheses, running from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Softening laugh lines, while subtle, really helps to bring back a vibrant and youthful look. We can also use Juvederm to correct the marionette lines, which are the lines from the corners of the mouth running down to the chin area[40].

There are many things we can correct with facial fillers, depending on our patients’ goals. We have several other cosmetic fillers and injectables to choose from to restore a youthful appearance. Facial fillers are often called the liquid face lift because they offer dramatic results without the expense and downtime of surgery. The results from fillers are also very natural.

Juvederm for Lips

At WIFH, we also use Juvederm XC to augment the lips. Since Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, it helps to add volume and hydration while maintaining the natural shape of the lips using the body’s own moisture[41]. Putting Juvederm in the lips will not result in duck lips—this is a common misconception.

The beauty of using fillers to add volume is patients can use as much or as little as they want to get the look they’re after. As we are injecting our patients, they will have a mirror and will be able to tell us when they are satisfied with the look. Lips do tend to swell, but not to worry it dissipates fairly quickly over several days.

For this reason, we recommend planning ahead when scheduling injectables so there are a couple weeks for any swelling or bruising to go away. Juvederm provides lasting results because of the way the hyaluronic acid binds to water. Patients love the naturally plump look of their lips after Juvederm!

Post-Juvederm

After the Juvederm injection, patients will have swelling for several days and as long as ten days following treatment. There is always a chance of bruising. While most of our patients don’t bruise, this isn’t a promise we can make. Bruising typically resolves in several days. So for patients who are getting ready for an event or occasion, we advise them to schedule their filler appointments at least 2 weeks before the event.

Juvederm usually lasts about 6 months, although some patients indicate it lasts longer for them. Because it is made of hyaluronic acid the body will gradually absorb it over time, so how long it lasts will depend on how quickly the body metabolizes it[48]. What patients should expect is to love the results they get with Juvederm.

As always, visit or call WIFH today to set up a consultation, and find out how to reduce signs of aging with Juvederm XC fillers!
