A Background on Acne Treatment Options

Many people have tried creams, astringents, and facial cleaning systems advertised on TV – but still struggle with acne. They may think there aren’t any acne treatment options right for them. For people still experiencing inflamed or infected sebaceous (oil) glands, there’s still hope.

Depending on skin type, it can be difficult to get this problem under control along with the oily skin, pimples, and blackheads that go along with acne. Everyone’s skin is different, so not every product will work for every skin type and acne issue. For people who have gone through the usual remedies with no success, it’s time to bring out the big guns.

Individualized Solutions to Treat Acne

At WIFH, we specialize in individualized solutions to skin conditions, because no one person’s skin is exactly like another’s. This means the therapy needed may be different from what the patient thinks, and they may just need a slightly more intensive, personalized cosmetic regimen to keep their skin clear and radiant.

Chemical Peels to Treat Acne

Chemical peels are designed to reduce acne, acne scarring, pigmentation, and pore size[39]. They improve the skin’s texture by placing chemicals that exfoliate and destroy skin cells on affected areas. When skin cells are destroyed, new cells take their place, causing a rejuvenated look and a reduction in the appearance of acne-related problems.

Chemical peels can be grouped in three categories: superficial, medium depth and deep[69]. Which one is right for which patient will depend on the patient’s concerns, skin conditions, and skin type. Peels also stimulate collagen and elastin production, to help create firmer, smoother skin. Medium depth and deep peels will cause the skin to flake and peel off, but there are superficial peels that are also very effective that have no peeling or flaking. There are plenty of options when it comes to peels, and they are very effective at controlling acne and correcting its damage.

Microdermabrasion to Treat Acne

Microdermabrasion helps resurface the skin by manually removing the top layer, making it an effective treatment for revitalizing dull skin, reducing pore size, and getting rid of acne[67]. The version that WIFH uses, DermaSweep MD, uses coarse bristles to precisely and effectively remove the skin cells and stimulate blood flow as well as collagen formation.

Microdermabrasion stimulates blood flow, cleans pores, and removes dirt and debris that can assist in the formation of acne. It also firms and tones the skin for a smoother, brighter glow. Once the surface has been exfoliated, an infusion solution is selected for each patient’s particular skin concern, and it is infused and pressed into the skin. Routine microderms are perfect for controlling acne, basic skin rejuvenation, and anti-aging.

For patients who have been suffering from acne, drugstore solutions may not be enough to restore the skin. These WIFH services cost more than topical creams and lotions, but are the most effective in the long run. They can be done quickly and can provide better solutions for problem skin.

For patients curious if they’re a candidate for these procedures, they can schedule a consultation with one of our medical aestheticians. As with any and all professional procedures of this type, there are limitations, side effects, and proper ways to prepare and recover.
