Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a single wavelength of light (laser) to target and destroy hair follicles in the skin. As one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, laser hair removal helps reduce the need for shaving, plucking or waxing unwanted hair. In addition to destroying follicles, laser hair removal clears the way for smoother skin by getting rid of painful ingrown hairs and razor bumps.
Laser hair removal is a process that requires a series of treatments to achieve the best results. Because of this, at WIFH, all of our laser hair removal packages include:
Our staff of Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, and Medical Aestheticians are all licensed laser practitioners by the Georgia Composite Medical Board. Since 2002, WIFH’s laser medical practitioners have performed more than 1.5 million laser hair removal treatments.
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment, or melanin, in the hair follicle. The laser energy is absorbed by the hair and converts to heat, safely reducing the follicle’s ability to produce new hair. Just as darker colors absorb more heat from sunlight, the melanin in the hair absorbs the laser energy, allowing the follicle to be treated effectively while the surrounding skin remains unharmed. The process goes as follows:

This type of hair removal is commonly known as laser hair removal, but the hair itself isn’t being removed. Rather, the laser technology reduces the number of hair follicles and their ability to produce hair by 75% to 90%.
Patients will never achieve 100% hair reduction, and WIFH will never guarantee 100% hair reduction. Patients who hear of such promises from other practitioners should not believe these claims.
Following a series of treatments, the remaining hair grows finer in thickness because of the reduction in follicle size. Hairs will appear lighter in color and grow back very slowly, decreasing the amount of maintenance for the patient post-treatment.
Laser hair removal can be safely and effectively performed on most areas of the body where hair grows, including:

Due to serious risk of ocular injury, laser hair removal can not be performed around the eyebrows [9].
Laser hair removal is a fairly low-risk treatment, provided it is being performed by a highly experienced professional. In the right hands and with the right laser, all skin tones and ethnicities can be safely treated. When determining the appropriate laser and settings for treatment, we’ll take into account specific patient characteristics such as [12]:
The most common complication from laser hair removal is hyperpigmentation — the temporary darkening of the skin. Factors to consider about hyperpigmentation include:
In rare instances, hyperpigmentation can last several months. If a patient experiences any issues or concerns following treatment the patient should contact their practitioner.
Preparation steps for laser hair removal include:
Wear sunscreen and avoid:
Patients should avoid:
Shave the area and remove any:
Laser hair removal is not completely painless, but most WIFH patients find the treatment very tolerable. For those who experience any discomfort, a prescription numbing cream can be sent through our partner pharmacy. When applied prior to your appointment, it helps improve overall comfort during your treatment. Treatment time varies depending on the area being treated:
Patients will need to complete a series of 8 sessions spaced 6 weeks apart for the best results.
Immediately following laser hair removal, patients typically experience very little discomfort or side effects. Patients can expect:
Patients often notice improvement after each session, with the best long-term results achieved by completing the full treatment package. Staying consistent and on schedule allows us to target hair in every growth phase for optimal reduction.
Note for Facial Hair & Long-Term Maintenance:
Facial hair is more hormonally driven than other areas, so bodily changes may lead to new growth over time. While your initial package delivers lasting results, some patients choose touch-up sessions that are available at a discounted rate and tailored to your treatment.

At WIFH, consultations are a key part of the laser hair removal experience. With over 1.5 million treatments performed and laser hair removal expertise dating back to 2002, our approach is rooted in education, safety, and results. Consultations allow our clinical team to understand your goals, answer questions, and walk you through what to expect from treatment.
During your complimentary consultation, a member of our experienced clinical team will evaluate your skin tone, hair color, and treatment area to set realistic expectations and design a personalized treatment plan. We safely treat all skin tones using advanced Cynosure laser technology and proven protocols developed over decades of experience.
Many patients choose to begin treatment the same day as their consultation. If you would like to move forward immediately, simply let us know when scheduling so we can reserve the time for you.
There are numerous benefits of hair removal. In many ways, it helps boost both comfort and confidence – helping individuals feel more comfortable in their skin.
Here’s a closer look at the advantages:
Laser hair removal replaces daily upkeep with long-term ease, helping you reclaim your time, your skin, and the money spent on temporary solutions.
Yes, one of the most significant benefits of laser hair removal is healthier, calmer skin. Many patients notice a visible reduction in ingrown hairs and razor bumps even after their first session. We consistently see improvement across all treatment areas, including the face, neck, bikini line, legs, back, and underarms, making laser hair removal not just a cosmetic upgrade, but a skin-quality upgrade as well.
Even patients with very light blonde hair may still have enough pigment for laser hair removal to be effective. That said, results depend on the balance between hair color and skin tone, which is why we always recommend a consultation first. During your visit, our clinical team will assess whether laser hair removal is the right option for you. If we do not feel you are a good candidate, we will be upfront from the start so you can make an informed decision without wasting time or money.
For safe and effective laser hair removal, your skin should be as close to its natural tone as possible during treatment.
We strongly recommend avoiding tanning beds, spray tans, self-tanners, tanning oils, tanning mists, and any supplements or peptides designed to darken the skin while undergoing laser hair removal. Artificial or UV tanning increases the risk of skin irritation and can interfere with how the laser targets the hair follicle.
All forms of tanning products and skin-darkening supplements must be discontinued at least 3 weeks prior to your treatment. Once your session is complete, self-tanners and spray tans may be resumed if desired.
For patients with lighter hair or lighter skin tones, this guideline is especially important to ensure optimal results and skin safety.
If you are unsure whether a product or supplement may affect your treatment, our clinical team is happy to review this with you during your complimentary consultation.
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle beneath the skin. Waxing, plucking, or threading removes the hair entirely from the follicle, leaving nothing for the laser to treat.
Even if you wax or pluck 1 to 3 weeks before your appointment, the hair may not have fully regrown into the follicle. This makes your treatment less effective and can delay your overall results.
For best outcomes, we strongly recommend avoiding waxing, plucking, or threading throughout your treatment package. Shaving is perfectly fine and encouraged, as it preserves the follicle while keeping the skin smooth for treatment.
Selecting a clinic for laser hair removal in Atlanta is crucial for a safe and effective treatment experience. Not all clinics are created equal. When evaluating potential clinics like WIFH, consider asking the following:
At WIFH, laser hair removal has been a core service since 2002, with over 1.5 million treatments performed across all skin tones. Our clinical team prioritizes education, safety, and realistic expectations, ensuring every patient feels informed and confident from the very first visit.
Once you’ve selected a clinic that meets these standards, the next step is preparing for your first laser hair removal appointment and setting yourself up for the best possible results.
Yes, at WIFH we pride ourselves on having not only the technology, but the training and expertise to safely treat all skin tones.
We utilize the Nd:YAG 1064nm laser, the gold standard for treating melanin-rich skin. This wavelength is designed to bypass pigment in the surface of the skin and safely deliver energy deeper into the hair follicle. By targeting the follicle beneath the skin rather than surface melanin, the Nd:YAG significantly reduces the risk of burns, discoloration, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
This advanced technology allows us to safely treat deeper skin tones while still delivering effective, long-term hair reduction. Every treatment is customized based on skin tone, hair density, and treatment area to ensure both safety and optimal results.
With decades of experience and treating over 52+ nationalities, WIFH has been a trusted practice for laser hair removal in Atlanta since 2002.
At WIFH, our clinic is equipped with world-renowned Cynosure Alexandrite and Nd:YAG medical-grade laser platforms, the gold standard in laser hair removal, enabling safe, effective, and fully customized treatments across a wide range of skin tones and hair colors.
This dual-laser approach ensures precise targeting of the hair follicle while prioritizing skin safety, comfort, and consistent results. With laser hair removal expertise dating back to 2002 and over 1.5 million treatments performed, our team selects the right technology for each patient rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all device.
