Why would they be called ‘Love Handles’? Let’s be honest there’s nothing to love about love handles. This is an area that plagues both men and women alike. Most people who struggle with this area are very aware of its location, but we’ll define it here: the term “love handles” describes the fat that hangs over the rear and side waistline—the fat you might find yourself grabbing and wondering why it got such an ill-fitting name.
For whatever reason, the love handles can be super resistant to diet and exercise, and as much as we all try to stay positive about our bodies and take good care of our health, love handles can really take a toll on the way you see yourself. Unfortunately, this area is one of the most noticeable areas to have extra weight on the body, simply because it sits just above your pant line and spills over, not a cute look.
If you’re looking for a way to get rid of your love handles, there are multiple body contouring treatment options available.
Smartlipo Procedure to Get Rid of Love Handles
Smartlipo does a great job addressing the annoying issue of love handles. Smartlipo is laser-assisted liposuction. Done under local anesthesia, 94% of our patients don’t even take an oral sedative and drive themselves home after their procedure.
During the minimally-invasive Smartlipo procedure addressing the love handles, tiny punctures, about 1/8 of an inch, are made in the skin (typically for this area one on each side is needed, at most 2 on each side), the area is infused with a numbing fluid, then a cannula with a laser fiber threaded through it is inserted to melt the fat away.
The heat from the laser, while melting the fat, simultaneously tightens the skin, leaving you with smooth results. Once liquefied, the fatty fluid from the love handles area is suctioned from the body.
You will have some swelling following the procedure, and we do require that you wear a compression garment under your clothes for 3 weeks (this really isn’t as bad as you think). At about 4 weeks you will start to see your body take shape. Keep in mind it can take between 3-6 months before you see final results from your Smartlipo procedure.
SculpSure Treatment to Get Rid of Love Handles
For those not ready for a surgical procedure regardless of how minimally invasive it is, there are still options to help get rid of your love handles. SculpSure is one of those options.
SculpSure is a non-invasive fat reduction procedure and is the only FDA approved warm laser for reducing fat. The treatment itself only take 25-minutes to complete, so it’s easy to work this procedure into a busy lifestyle. With each treatment you can get rid of up to 24% of the fat in the love handles area. Because this procedure is non-invasive it relies on your body to get rid of the damaged fat cells, versus liposuction where the fat cells are being manually removed. For this reason results are harder to predict since it’s hard to say how much your individual body can get rid of.
Before starting your SculpSure treatment the area will be cleansed and the selected frames will be secured to the love handle area. The laser windows are then snapped into the secured frames.
During the 25-minute treatment it will rotate between 20 seconds of heating followed by 10 seconds of cooling. The exact sensation will vary from person to person. Some sense the heating others describe it as a crampy feeling while others describe a tingling sensation.
Once the treatment has been completed. The lasers are removed along with the frames and you are ready to go. There is zero downtime with this procedure, you can immediately return to any activity. The next day you feel some mild tenderness, similar to a bruise, nothing that would slow you down.
Unlike Smartlipo that is a one and done treatment, you will need to return in 8-10 weeks for another SculpSure treatment on your love handles. You will begin to see results from the first treatment around 8-weeks (basically around the time you will return for your next treatment). This treatment offer fat reductions with no incisions and zero downtime.
