It’s summertime! And that means hotter weather, swimming and spending more time outdoors—all of which can create stressful situations for your skin like clogged pores, dryness, and sun damage. Luckily, here at WIFH we have tips and treatments to help keep your skin glowing and healthy during these summer months. Here are five skincare habits to keep in mind as you enjoy your summer:
Cleansing is extremely important to remove oil and debris and prevent clogged pores. Our skin tends to produce more oil during warmer weather, so this is especially necessary in the summer. Ordinarily cleansing morning and night are all you need to do, but during the summer you may find you need to cleanse more frequently especially if you have been out in the sun or have sweat heavily. If you are cleansing more frequently be sure to use a gentle cleanser so that you don’t dry it out.
You should be exfoliating two to three times per week to get rid of dead skin. Exfoliating will allow your pores to breath and keep them from clogging and becoming congested. Like polishing glass, exfoliating also helps to keep your skin’s natural glow. Exfoliating also diminishes the appearance of sun damage by getting rid of darker-appearing dead skin.
Many people like to forget this step in the summer, since the skin is often more oily. However, hydrating the skin can actually keep the skin’s natural oil production at bay. Hydrating will prevent the body from trying to replenish any apparent lack of moisture in the skin with excess oil.
4. Wear Sunscreen!!!
You MUST use sunscreen every day! So many sunscreens are available now, so you can easily find one you like and that works well with your skin. Many of today’s sunscreens guarantee they will not cause breakouts, and some are even tinted so they won’t leave your skin looking white. Here’s the thing: even if you are not going outside this summer, you still get indirect sun exposure through windows (car, office, house, apartment).
We absolutely have to protect our skin. Sun exposure leads to unwanted sun damage and pre-mature aging. While we know everyone likes a little color, you can accomplish the same look with bronzers, tinted primers, tinted sunscreen, and even going a shade darker with your foundation or mineral powders. Even if your make up says it has sunscreen in it, you need to wear a separate sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
5. WIFH Treatments
Of course, skin procedures like HydraFacial, superficial peels and microdermabrasions will also help keep your skin beautiful during the summer. We’re here for you at WIFH to take care of your specific skincare needs including product recommendations and skin treatments. We recommend waiting to have more aggressive peels and treatments after the summer months, that way we can treat any damage those harsh summer environments might have caused.
Don’t let summer get the best of your skin! Remember to cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, wear sunscreen, and have a skin procedure to keep your skin looking beautiful.
