Skin: Picking the Best Peel (CosMedix vs. Vi Peel)

Best Skin Peel Cosmedix vs VI Peel

Peels can be described as any exfoliating procedure that produces a post-procedure peeling effect on the skin, though there are different depths of peels. Some cause the skin to actually peel while others do not. The common goal of all peels is to rejuvenate the skin. The three common categories of peels are: Superficial, Medium, and Deep. Peels help remove the skin’s outer layer that is made up of primarily dead skin cells. It also stimulates collagen and elastin production in the healthy layers beneath, which results in thickening, tightening and firming of the skin.

Peels can diminish the appearance of age spots, blemishes, fine lines, wrinkles, acne, acne scars, and any kind of pigmentation while reducing pore size and improving the skin’s overall texture. Peels can be used to treat almost any condition on your face, neck, back, and hands. Not all peels are good for all skin types, your skin care professional can advise you on which peel is right for you.

Two types of the peels we offer at WIFH are VI Peel and CosMedix Chemical peels (we offer several made by this company).

CosMedix Chemicals Peels

CosMedix offer several different types of chemical peels. They are appropriate for all skin types and are designed to stimulate changes in the skin without causing irritation. They utilize plant-based, natural ingredients, that being said while they don’t use traditional chemicals, the ingredients while natural are active and do a great job of exfoliating with no irritation, so they are perfect for the person that wants a peel without the peel. These peels address the cause of the problem and not just the symptom. While most peels focus on destroying healthy tissue and forcing the body to heal itself, CosMedix Peels are designed as non-traumatic and encourage gentle but effective skin renewal.

CosMedix Chemical Peels are meant to create mild sloughing of the skin rather than traditional peeling, which takes away the irritation and downtime patients usually experience after a chemical peel. You can still experience some mild redness, tightening and even swelling immediately following the peel with mild flaking of the skin for a few days. As you cleanse the skin, dead skin cells will slough off, leaving you with a renewed complexion usually 7 days post-procedure. It’s best to do a series of peels in order to see the greatest results. The CosMedix peels that we offer at WIFH are:

Blueberry Smoothie

The Blueberry Smoothie offers a refreshing scrub that combines a gentle acid with the active blueberry extracts to lightly exfoliate the skin and restore its youthful glow. It’s a great acne treatment as it helps smooth away surface impurities.

Pomegranate Peel

This antioxidant peel works to even out the top layers of skin. It also stimulates collagen production while the antioxidants prevent free radical damage. Great for all skin types and skin conditions.

Benefit Peel

The Benefit Peel is considered the best all around peel available. Perfect for all skin types and conditions. This powerful antioxidant peel delivers vital nutrients into the skin layers. It utilizes vitamin C for a calming effect. This peel repairs, nourishes and protects. It’s even gentle enough for rosacea sufferers.

Purity Peel

The Purity Peel is formulated to penetrate oil to correct skin conditions such as acne and large pores. The unique blend of acids clears the skin of blemishes and heals acne lesions, reduces inflammation and exfoliates the skin for a glowing, dewy complexion

Blueberry Jessner Peel

The Blueberry Jessner Peel is the most aggressive of all the CosMedix peels. It is designed to eliminate impurities, reduce visible blemishes, lifts away stubborn pigmentation and smoothes superficial lines and wrinkles. It combines chirally correct acids with soothing blueberry extracts. You will peel with this peel, but not as much as traditional peels.

VI Peel

VI Peel is an extremely popular peel at WIFH, and while it is more expensive than any of the CosMedix Chemical Peels, patients do not have to do it as often. VI Peel is designed to improve the overall tone, texture, and clarity of your skin. Its synergistic blend of powerful ingredients is safe for all skin types and creates a firmer and more youthful look by stimulating the production of collagen.

This type of peel tackles skin problems at the cellular level rather than just drying out the skin to cause it to peel. The VI Peel is also extremely effective for acne and hyper pigmentation, including the most difficult pigmentation issue known as melasma. The VI Peel is applied topically to the skin you may experience a mild stinging sensation for a few seconds, but it subsides almost immediately.

Patients can expect a slightly tan or yellow tinge to the skin immediately after the peel is applied. We do not wash or remove the peel while you are in the office, rather you will leave with the peel on your skin and you will cleanse it off later that day (the length of time on the skin is based on skin type). You will have some tightening of the skin on days one and two with no visible signs of peeling.

Peeling usually starts on day three. The amount of peeling varies based on the condition of your skin. Most patients report that the peeling is easily controlled with moisturizers. You can have this peel as often as every 4-6 weeks. If you are battling acne or hyperpigmention a series is definitely recommended. Many patients like to do this peel at the change of seasons to refresh the skin. However you choose to add this peel to your skin care routine you won’t be disappointed with its results.

CosMedix or VI Peel?

Advantages of the CosMedix Chemical Peels include a wider variety of treatment options and lower price point, less irritation and downtime, while the VI Peel is more expensive but generally yields more dramatic results and can be done less frequently. However, both peels are safe for all skin types and include minimal peeling and skin irritation.
