Rejuvapen Microneedling for Acne Scars

Rejuvapen Acne Scars Atlanta

Suffering from frustrating and unsightly acne scarring? Then, the microneedling treatment, Rejuvapen, might be a solution for you.

As if having had acne wasn’t bad enough now it’s left its mark all over your face. Chemical peels only help so much and ablative laser treatments can often carry significant risks. Microneedling offers significant improvement with acne scars and even stretch marks with no downtime.

So if you’re serious about erasing the marks acne has left behind you’ll want to consider microneedling. There are several different microneedling devices on the market; here we will discuss the Rejuvapen device as that is the microneedling device we use here at WIFH.

Rejuvapen: The Process

The first thing most people think of when they think of microneedling is it must be painful; I mean it does have needle in the name. To the contrary, this procedure is actually painless. The process begins by applying a topical numbing cream that we will leave on for one hour prior to beginning the procedure. This makes the treatment comfortable and painless. Rejuvapen is a powered device that utilizes 9 surgical-grade stainless steel needles to create thousands of micro-channels in the treated skin, which triggers the skin’s wound healing response, allowing the body to start producing new skin tissue.

This new tissue will transform into collagen fibers, which will fill depressed scars and wrinkles and thicken and strengthen delicate skin over the course of two-to-three months. During the treatment, we will apply a serum containing a high concentration of natural growth factors that are rapidly absorbed deep into the skin through the micro-channels made in the skin. These growth factors will also trigger new skin cells to form. This will bring in new blood vessels dramatically increasing the production of collagen and elastin produced as a result of the treatment.

Immediately following your microneedling treatment your skin will look like you have mild sunburn. This redness will dissipate overnight. It is recommended that you not wear make-up for 24 hours following your treatment and you will also be provided with after care instructions and products, which are very simple.

Multiple Microneedling Treatments

Depending on your specific skin goals and what area we are treating, the number of treatments you need will vary. However, patients with acne scarring usually require at least 6-8 treatments, depending on the severity and depth of the scars.

We recommend 4 weeks or 1 month between treatments. It is important to remember that it takes 3 months for your skin to complete the healing response, so even after the completion of your treatment package you will continue to see improvement for several months afterward.

Types of Acne Scars

Acne scars vary based on depth and severity. Depressed, or pitted, acne scars are the most common type of scarring. They can also be referred to as ‘ice-pick’ or ‘box car’ scarring. These occur when healthy tissue is unable to grow on top of scar tissue, maintaining a depression in the skin. Depressed scars usually respond really well to treatment with Rejuvapen, since the treatment disrupts scar tissue and allows healthy tissue to grow in its place.

Discoloration and pigmentation scars happen when redness remains permanent at the site of previous acne. Light and laser treatments that target melanin are also effective to treat this type of scarring; Rejuvapen does a great job in lessening discoloration and pigmentation as well.

Active Acne

An important note: patients with active acne should not pursue Rejuvapen treatments. If you have current breakouts, we will need to find a skincare regimen to get rid of active acne and maintain clear skin before you can undergo microneedling. The reason for this is we do not want to spread the bacteria within the acne lesions, as this could make the breakout worse and even lead to infection. If you are still struggling with acne we can meet with you to discuss different products to help get the acne under control before proceeding with a microneedling session.

Hello, I have been derma rolling my face and have now done 6 treatments followed by an Obaji C serum application. The first 5 treatments I did every 4 weeks but last night I did it after 3 weeks only because next week is Thanksgiving. Am I going to be okay? I won’t do it again and I am very pleased with how this is working. I also realize you get better results in an office like yours but money has been an issue. Thanks for you response. Yes you should be fine. We recommend 4 weeks between treatments in our office, but if you are using an at home derma roll it doesn’t penetrate as deeply as our powered device. You should be fine with having done it 3 weeks. Best of luck to you.
