If you suffer with acne scars, hyperpigmentation, burn marks, or fine lines and wrinkles, you should look into microneedling. Don’t let the word ‘needle’ deter you, this procedure is actually painless and does an amazing job to rejuvenate the skin. Here we’ll talk about what microneedling is, specifically the Rejuvapen device because that’s the one we use at WIFH and its delivering awesome results for our patients.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, or Fractional Collagen Induction Therapy, is just as effective as fractional laser resurfacing without the days of downtime. That being said, for the best results you will need a series of microneedling treatments. The treatment uses tiny needles to create micro channels, or tiny holes, in the skin to stimulate your skin’s natural ability to heal itself and produce collagen and elastin.

Microneedling is also safe and effective for all skin types and colors. Prior to microneedling, your aesthetician will apply a compounded numbing cream to the treatment area. We will allow the numbing cream to sit for one hour, so the treatment is painless. There are several different microneedling devices on the market. At WIFH, we use the Rejuvapen microneedling device.

The Process of Microneedling with Rejuvapen

Rejuvapen is a non-surgical and non-laser treatment using the body’s natural response to healing to increase the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin, resulting in firmer skin, less visible pores, less discoloration, and a healthier and more youthful appearance. The device uses 9 surgical-grade stainless steel needles to create thousands of micro-channels in the treated skin, triggering the skin’s wound healing response. Your body then starts naturally producing new tissue that will turn into collagen fibers.

A serum with high concentration of natural growth factors is also applied and driven into your skin during the treatment, encouraging new skin cells to form to produce more collagen and elastin. Within two weeks, the majority of patients notice firmer, healthier, and glowing skin. Two to three months after the procedure, patients usually start seeing how the new collagen fibers fill depressed scars and wrinkles and thicken and strengthen thin, delicate skin.

Number of Treatments

Patients choosing will need multiple treatments to achieve the best results, but the number of treatments depends on your individual skin goals and the reason for treatment as well as what area we are treating, the face or the body. For example, for wrinkles and facial rejuvenation, patients usually need 4 to 8 treatments, while patients with acne scars usually require 8 to 10 treatments.

What Rejuvapen Can Do for Your Skin

Microneedling with Rejuavapen helps get rid of acne scars, lines, and wrinkles and improves stretch marks, pigmentation and overall skin health. The process is great for your face, neck, and chest. Make sure when you choose to go with Rejuvapen that you also pair the procedure with great home skin care.

Also, have the procedure done by an experienced medical aesthetician that can take great care of your unique skin needs. With almost any procedure, there are patients who are good candidates for Rejuvapen and those who are not. I got PDO threads (NOVA threads) inserted into my face about two weeks ago; how long do I have to wait to do this service?

This is a great question. We don’t use PDO threads in our office. We don’t believe there is any reason you can’t move forward with microneedling treatments, but just to be safe I would contact the office that inserted the threads and see if they have a different opinion. Odds are it will be fine as the threads are located deeper in the dermis than the needles will penetrate. Let us know what they say, we’d be interested to know.
