The Leaves Are Falling Down But Your Face Doesn’t Have To: Injectables

Leaves Are Falling Down, Face Doesn't Have To Injectables

Fall has arrived! There’s a chill in the air and the days are getting shorter. For many, this is when your mood can begin to shift. You begin to lose your summer glow, you’ve got the hustle and bustle of the kids being back in school, which leaves little to no time to take care of yourself.

You look in the mirror and just look tired and frumpy, and you’d rather wear a Halloween mask than show your own face to the world. Ok, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but in any case, you should consider a pick-me-up that truly lifts you up – injectables at WIFH.

What Injectables Do

A variety of facial concerns can be improved or corrected with cosmetic injectables/fillers like wrinkles, scars and even volume loss. Botox, while it is a cosmetic injection it works differently than dermal fillers. It works by lessening the movement of the facial muscles to smooth away lines and wrinkles, whereas, fillers plump the area filling the lines and wrinkles.

There are many different fillers available, the most popular are hyaluronic acid based because it is naturally occurring in our bodies. Injectables are temporary but a highly effective way to get your youthful look back. Selecting the right injectable for you will depend on the area of your face you are looking to correct.

Botox

Botox, which is still the most popular aesthetic procedure around, treats frown lines (the area between your eyebrows), crow’s feet (the lines on the side of your eyes that you notice when you smile), and brow lines (forehead) to erase the effects of age on your face. It works by preventing signals from nerve cells from reaching the underlying muscles, to reduce the mobility of the muscles, which in turn prevents the area from wrinkling.

Botox takes just a few minutes to inject, results typically last 3-4 months. Botox is typically sold by the unit and the number of units you will need depends on the severity of your lines and the strength of the muscle and how much movement you would prefer to have. Most areas will need 10-25 units of Botox. Your medical professional administering the Botox can help you make that assessment to determine what you will need for maximum benefit. It takes 7-10 days for Botox to take full effect and results typically last about 3-4 months.

Juvederm

Juvederm is a popular dermal filler. It is a hyaluronic acid gel that is injected under the skin to plump and fill lines on the lower face. It is most commonly used for the lines around the mouth (laugh lines) and the marionette lines on the chin area. It can also be used to augment the lips for a nice soft, plumped look. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in our bodies so there is no risk of an allergic reaction. Topical numbing is applied to the area to be injected.

Juvederm XC also has lidocaine pre-mixed in it, so both of these combined make for a comfortable experience. Results are immediate and can last 6-9 months. You may have a little swelling after the injection, but it typically dissipates quickly. There is always a chance you could bruise, so you’ll want to schedule accordingly. Juvederm does a great job at rejuvenating the lower face. It takes years off your face.

Voluma

Voluma has been on the market since 2014. This product is amazing. It’s made for the mid-line face or cheek area. Nothing says youthful like full, “apple” like cheeks, but as we age the fat in this area begins to deplete and gravity doesn’t help either. Your cheeks begin to flatten and the skin can create bulk on the lower face. Voluma rebuilds the volume loss in your cheeks or if you never had cheeks to begin with you can get them with this product.

Voluma is also a hyaluronic acid based product, but it’s make up is much different from Juvederm. It’s designed to be injected just above the facial bone and it builds upward. Whereas, Juvederm is injected within the skin tissue and bonds to water molecules to provide that plumping effect. Topical numbing is applied to the cheek area. Voluma also comes premixed with lidocaine. Getting Voluma is surprisingly comfortable, some say even more so than Juvederm.

Results are immediate and subtle, and by that I mean it doesn’t look like you have cheek implants, it’s very natural. It makes a huge difference in the overall appearance of your face. It really refreshes your look, your eyes look more open, the lower face is lifted, you look rested and youthful. This injectable amazes me. With any filler there is a chance of bruising, so schedule this injection accordingly. Results last 2 years! Most people will need 1-2 syringes, while this filler is a little more expensive than Juvederm, the fact that it lasts 2 years and the results are so awesome makes it worth every penny.

Fall is a nice time to indulge in an injectable, because winter can be dreary but your treatment results will last through the season. Plus, everyone wants to look great for the holidays. If you’re interested in boosting your appearance as well as your spirits, consider Botox or a dermal filler.
