How to Get Rid of Underarm Odor

Everyone wants to feel fresh and clean, but if you suffer from chronic underarm odor, this can be a never-ending battle. As we sweat, bacteria forms on the skin, causing our underarms to emit a not-so-pleasant odor.

For most people, a deodorant is sufficient enough to keep those underarm odors at bay, but for others, it doesn’t matter what they do—that odor remains. Luckily, there is a solution: miraDry is a non-surgical procedure to rid of underarm sweat and odor.

About miraDry

miraDry is a safe, clinically proven, FDA cleared treatment for reducing excessive underarm sweat and odor for all skin types and is a permanent solution compared to Botox, which only works temporarily and can get very costly over time.

The miraDry treatment uses microwave energy to target and destroy sweat and odor glands. The procedure usually takes about 2 hours from start to finish, and because you are not sedated during the procedure, you are able to drive yourself home.

We ask our patients to prepare for the procedure by shaving 3 to 4 days in advance of treatment. This allows for a few days of stubble to help us identify the location of your sweat glands, which mirrors the pattern of the hair growth in the underarm area.

First, we cleanse your underarms and place a temporary tattoo ‘grid’ on the treatment area. Then, we administer one single shot of lidocaine in each underarm. Dr. Kulkin then makes a tiny puncture in the skin where the lidocaine was injected. Through this small opening he infuses a numbing solution under the skin creating a numbing pillow and total nerve block ensuring a painless and comfortable experience.

After the numbing is complete, the miraDry hand piece is positioned on the temporary tattooed grid, using suction to keep it in place. miraDry then delivers timed microwave energy to the area. Once it is complete, the suction releases, and the hand piece is moved to the next section of the grid until the entire underarm gets treated. Each underarm usually takes about 30 minutes to treat.

After miraDry

We will provide you with ice packs to take home. We recommend icing your underarms in intervals of 30 minutes (30 minutes on, 30 minutes off) for the remainder of the day to help reduce swelling.

You will feel some tenderness once the numbing fluid begins to wear off. This will take several hours. Tylenol or Ibuprofen can be taken to help with any discomfort. You will notice results immediately with continued improvement over the next several weeks and final results by 3 months!

Get Long Lasting Results

Once sweat glands are destroyed, they do not regenerate, so miraDry results are long-term. In most cases our patients only need one treatment due to the technique that we use. And results are immediate with continued improvement for 3 months.
