By now everyone has probably heard of Botox. It remains the #1 cosmetic procedure in the world. But what is it, exactly?
Botox is Botulinum toxin. It is injected into facial muscles to temporarily inhibit their movement, relaxing the lines and wrinkles associated with that movement and smoothing them away.
Botox in the Forehead
The forehead is one of the most requested areas for Botox to be injected. The amount of movement you want or don’t want will dictate how much Botox you will need in order to get your desired results. The more you inject, the less movement you will have and typically the longer the immobility will last. A typical forehead might need anywhere from 10 to 25 units of Botox.
How Long Does Botox Last?
Botox results typically last 3 to 4 months, but those results also depend on the number of units injected and how quickly you metabolize the product. The great thing about Botox is that it is completely customizable based on your preference of movement.
If you like a little movement in the forehead, and we use a smaller dose of Botox, you should expect the results to last maybe only 3 months. Patients that use more units may notice the effects last 4+ months. Many patients that have used Botox for years say they feel like their Botox lasts longer each time, but that could be because they come in for their next Botox treatment before their previous Botox injections completely wear off.
Scheduling Botox: Pro Tips
Before getting Botox, make sure you know what to expect from your treatment. It can take up to 10 days after being injected with Botox for the injections to take full effect, so keep this in mind when planning your treatment before a big event. You should also be aware that while bruising is very rare, it can happen after all we are sticking you with a needle.
To maintain your results, make sure you schedule your appointments regularly and don’t allow it to completely wear off.
