If you suffer from excessive underarm sweat, also known as hyperhydrosis, you might have considered either Botox or miraDry to alleviate the issue and finally live sweat-free. However, you might have also considered the difference in cost (in the short and long term) and wondered which option you should choose.
WIFH is here to help provide you with more information about the costs and benefits of miraDry vs. Botox for your hyperhydrosis. The truth is, while Botox is definitely less expensive upfront; miraDry is the more affordable choice over time.
Botox for Hyperhydrosis
Besides prescription antiperspirants, Botox used to be the only option for treating hyperhydrosis, and people still choose Botox to address their sweating issues. With Botox, though, patients need to consider the cost of the treatment over time and the kind of results they can expect. Depending on the dosage of Botox for hyperhydrosis and the severity of the sweating, the effects can last up to 6 months. Typically, you need 100 units (divided between the armpits), which typically cost a total of $1,000 to $1,200. In a year’s time, then, you will have spent at least $2,000 on Botox, but the results are not permanent and you begin gradually sweating more as the Botox is wearing off.
miraDry for Hyperhydrosis
With miraDry, however, the results are permanent. MiraDry uses microwave energy to disable sweat and odor glands, which do not regenerate (meaning they do not grow back). At WIFH, we utilize a tumescent technique for miraDry. Our Ultra Comfort technology allows us to treat at the highest power the miraDry device will allow with zero discomfort to the patient. Most patients only require one treatment and we can achieve a 70-95% permanent reduction in sweat and odor.
A one-time procedure of miraDry costs $2,300 to $2,650, but you will never have to think about your sweat again. We have a 95% satisfaction rate with this procedure. Roughly 10% of patients come back for a 2nd procedure, most of these patients are reporting 70-80% reduction in sweat and odor after the 1st procedure, but want to see if they can achieve even further reduction by having a second procedure done. If you opt for a second procedure we discount it to $995.
With miraDry, you will spend the same amount of money as you would on about a year’s worth of Botox, but the results from miraDry are permanent so you have no further cost to think about. From a cost-benefit perspective, miraDry is a preferred solution for most patients. We welcome anyone considering miraDry to schedule a free consultation to find out if this procedure is right for you.
