3 Types of Skin Care Products Everyone Should Be Using Daily: Your Skin Care Essentials

3 Best Types of Skin Care Products

Sometimes the list of “must-have” skin products can be overwhelming. There are so many products available that you could try. Quality skin care products can be pricey, so you certainly want to get the most bang for your buck. You want a product that will be corrective and provide you with visible improvement in your skin. A consultation with a skin care professional is a great way to get the right products for your skin. They will also educate you how what you can expect as you begin using the recommended products.

At WIFH, we advise our patients to take great care of their skin at home, so that the treatments they ger here will reveal even better results. We help our patients find the right quality products for their skin, without going overboard on price or quantity.

Here are three types of skin care products we believe are essential for daily use and our recommendations for the best products in those categories:

Vitamin C Serum

A Vitamin C serum is essential. Vitamin C:

  • Strengthens the skin, meaning it makes the skin less reactive and sensitive
  • Stimulates collagen, which tightens and firms the skin
  • Protects skin from UV damage by adding an extra layer of defense when it kills off free radicals
  • Repairs existing damage by lightening sun damage and brightening dull skin

Vitamin C can be purchased in many forms, but we recommend using a serum, because in a serum form, it is better able to penetrate your skin’s cells and work more effectively.

All skin types from oily to dry can use Vitamin C. It’s light and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin–some would even call it weightless–which is great, since you should use Vitamin C serum during the day.

There are many over-the counter-products that contain Vitamin C, but these will not have the same quality as medical-grade Vitamin C products: you want the highest concentration of L-ascorbic acid for the best results.

For Vitamin C products, we recommend iS clinical Super Serum Advance+ and SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic.

Vitamin A

This powerhouse multi-tasker comes in multiple forms, but the most common are Retinol and Tretinoin. Retinol is a Vitamin A derivative, and the Tretinoin is the pure Vitamin A. Vitamin A:

  • Stimulates collagen
  • Fights acne
  • Increases cell turnover
  • Prevents and reverses the signs of aging
  • Increase product penetration and effectiveness
  • Improves texture.

Even people with sensitive skin can use a Vitamin A; it’s just about selecting the right products. This product would only be used at night.

Products that work for even sensitive skin include Obagi Tretinoin, which comes in different strengths, and Karin Herzog Vita-A-Kombi Oil (retinol), which is especially great for sensitive, dry skin.

Moisturizer

Regardless of your skin type (dry to oily), everyone needs a moisturizer. There’s just no getting around it: healthy skin is well hydrated skin. The right moisturizer:

  • Balances the pH of your skin, which in turn…
  • Balances your skin’s natural oil production
  • Fights aging
  • Strengths the skin

If you have especially dry skin we recommend the Obagi Hydrate Lux and SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2. For normal skin, we recommend Obagi Hydrate or iS Clinical Reparative Moisture Emulsion. For oily skin, we recommend SkinCeuticals Metacell Renewal B3 or Karin Herzog Oxygen Face.
