Meet Dr. Mullins

John D. Mullins, MD, FACS Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

About Dr. John D. Mullins

WIFH is honored to welcome Dr. John David Mullins, a board-certified plastic surgeon with more than 40 years of clinical experience, to our team. From his practice on the Piedmont Hospital campus in Atlanta, Dr. Mullins specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgery using a compassionate approach to patient care. He operates with the understanding that most people wish they could change something about their body, often leading to negative body image and low self-esteem centered on these areas of concern. Dr. Mullins invests time in understanding each patient’s unique needs before designing a treatment plan focused on their goals. His refined surgical artistry goes beyond achieving aesthetic goals to promote positive self-image and life-changing motivation as a result of physical changes.

Subsequent to earning his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Mullins completed an internship at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas followed by three years of active duty service. His commitment to serving his country continued throughout his time in private practice, culminating in his retirement as the Georgia National Guard Chief Medical Officer in 2014, spanning 41 years in the United States Air Force.

Returning to Atlanta, Dr. Mullins completed residencies in general surgery at Emory University Hospital and Piedmont Atlanta Hospital prior to fellowship training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Dr. Mullins many distinctions include certifications as a wound care specialist, a hyperbaric oxygen therapist, and a laser specialist. He is also certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Prior to joining the team at WIFH, Dr. Mullins served as president of the Georgia Society of Plastic Surgery, chief of plastic surgery at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, and guest lecturer at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Mullins continues his commitment to community in his roles as the chairman of the department of surgery at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and chairman of Georgia Surgical Expeditions, a philanthropic surgical team that performs surgery on indigent children in the Philippine Islands.
